Organizations can greatly benefit from using blogs as a means of communication within the company. Blogs make it easy and simple to brainstorm, discuss and stay in touch with fellow employees or coworkers. It is also a centralized area where all the information can be stored and accessed from anywhere with Internet. This makes it ideal for people who may be out of town or working from home, making it possible for them to contribute even if they are not physically present. It is also useful for tracking progress and thought process. Hyperlinks to useful websites, images or videos can also be shared with the rest of the company through blogs, which is helpful in portraying and explaining an idea. Furthermore, blogs can be used externally by the organization to market products to consumers as well as get feedback from them. This helps to improve the product or service. The disadvantages of using a blog in an organization are that it can expose ideas to the public, including competitors. This may impede the company’s competitive edge by allowing others to imitate their innovative ideas.
